The Internationale Beethoven Gesellschaft, founded in Berlin in July 2005, has set itself the goal of spreading Beethoven’s work throughout the world by following the biographical and musical traces left by the composer. With the promotion of artistic and scientific work, an orchestra academy, concerts and symposia not only in Berlin, but also in the historical sites that were important to the composer, such as the castles of Grätz (Czech Republic) and Oberglogau (Poland), German, Polish, Romanian and Czech musicians and musicologists in particular have commemorated Beethoven’s work there and, by fostering a transnational cultural exchange, at the same time make a contribution to the growing together of Europe.
The Internationale Beethoven Gesellschaft is currently involved in two projects:
The Young Ludwig Youth Music Competition is an international youth music competition aimed at ambitious young musicians under the age of 18. Since 2020, it has been held annually in cooperation with the Julius Stern Institute of the UdK in three age groups for violin, cello and piano at the Berlin University of the Arts.
In addition to cash prizes for the best performers in each age group, there is also the Rolf Sawatzki Prize in the form of a performance at the Berlin Philharmonie with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.
The second project, to be held for the first time in the second half of this year, will help young musicians to enter the Berlin concert scene. Through the Young Classic Berlin Festival, the Internationale Beethoven Gesellschaft aims to revive the tradition of intimate chamber concerts in salons and small halls. The goal of these concerts is to bring young musicians together with established artists and to give them the opportunity to perform together with them. In this way, the young musicians get renowned performance opportunities and can benefit from the experience of their partners.
